jaydream hogan - they/them

Jaydream is a mixed, non binary, queer identifying person who has spent most of their life in so called Kansas City*. They are a zinester, community organizer, barista, pet sitter/parent, native wildlife enthusiast and yoga practioner.

In 2015 Jaydream tried yoga in effort to ease their growing anxiety and depression. They immediately felt the many benefits and were eager to learn more! They enrolled in and graduated from a local 200hr teacher training in 2018. The training provided a foundation but left them craving more diversity and accessibility in their practice and teaching. That desire led them to the Accessible Yoga Teacher Training and Conference in 2019. It was there that they were able to bridge two of their passions, social justice and yoga. By diving deeper into these intersections their relationship to yoga evolved. The history of colonization in India and current manifestations of it in mainstream yoga culture (white supremacy, gatekeeping, appropriation, etc.) are not conversions to shy away from. Because of this they believe it is important to practice and facilitate classes that honor yoga beyond posture/physical ability with added emphasis on unification/the breaking down of binaries, empowerment, radical honesty, self/community care and, ultimately, liberation.

*Jaydream is living and practicing on the land of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Washtáge Moⁿzháⁿ (Kaw/Kansa), and Wažáže (Osage) people. Land that was stolen, colonized, and renamed to Kansas City.
